What do samurai swords, motorcycles, toilet lids, cars, and guitars have in common? They are all mediums for the lost art of pin striping, practiced by local mechanic Brad Grimm. According to Grimm, pin striping is “contemporary artwork on a conservative canvas.” Pin striping involves painting thin, stylized lines on anything with a flat surface, for the purpose of personalizing and individualizing that item. Many have chosen to have their cars and motorcycles pin striped by Grimm, while others have come to him with more unusual requests, such as refrigerators and airplanes.
